Episode Nineteen

It's a chilly DriveTime Weekend Edition as Ravi and Sonia welcome Melanie Orndorff from LA to talk about her faith exploration blog, Uncommon Path -- as well as other "Godcasts".

Plus, a peek at next week's DriveTime Event.

Excellent Drivetime episode. As a secular Lutheran raised by a Catholic/Lutheran and a Baptist married to a Taoist raised Buddhist who actually enjoys going to church more than I do (she sings, I move my mouth) I found your latest guest's endeavor very interesting.

Oh, why come Sonia never drives?

We were very struck by your adventures in Washington, D.C. and going to the National Zoo. It was truly inspiring. We made a family trip to Washington, D.C. last week, but rather than do something so cliché as go to the Natitional Zoo, we went on a hunt for Greek columns - Doric, Ionic and Corinthian within a one mile radius of Capital Hill. As dorky as it sounds, we found that the higher the concentration of Greek Columns, the better the parking.

don -- first out of the gate, with such rich insights, no less. I can imagine Melanie's ears pricking up at your thoughts on faith -- watch out, you might end up a guest on Uncommon Path!

Re: Sonia driving, patience, don....

Greek column hunting? Sounds like fun. Maybe Sonia and I will try that out the next time we go to Greece! ;-)

This was a great show!

Ravi: How do you find people to interview?

Sonia: How do you find people to interview?

steve, I'd say it's a balance between someone contacting us (especially nice when the subject line reads: "I want to be a guest on DriveTime!") and meeting or hearing about someone doing something interesting that makes me think, "This person should come on DriveTime".

Though often when we explain DriveTime to someone they either respond with a blank stare or an uncomfortable smile...

That's *my* take. As for Sonia's take...

That's funny. When I told a classmate of mine about Drivetime, she just looked at me like I never said anything at all. For a brief moment I wondered if I had thought it to myself or actually said it aloud.

Anyway, Steve, we often hear of guests through our network of friends or friendly people contact us.

Don, I don't drive because: 1.)The seat doesn't move; 2.) I hate driving.

Talk about a sweeps-style event... Sonia makes an appearance! ;-x

Re: "the seat" (and this is a hint about the next episode), remember "the seat" is on "the list". So maybe it won't be an issue?

And re: your hatred of driving, what if I was incapicated one episode (Sweeps event -- Ravi's DRUNK!) Could be a good public service kind of episode?

Ravi: I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who gets blank stares. I've started describing my project as "audio documentaries," since "podcast" opens up a whole can of worms.

Don: Ravi was right. I'm very curious about your spiritual path! If you ever feel like sharing...

Ravi + Sonia,

I think this was the best balance yet. Great content too!

One very interesting part was the clearly audible exchange between Sonia and Melanie outside the four-wheeled studio. That was cool!

I jest recently found out about your blog. DriveTime is very good idea, congratulations. I think you should turn the camera to the outside the car and recode some of the activity while you are taking (I know there are not much but it will be interesting and funny some times)

Good luck
Niran

Ravi's turtleneck and Sonia's coat gave a nice visual balance to this week's show. Also, everyone seemed more relaxed ... lack of the usual crazy traffic?

Kammy -- nice observation on the relaxed vibe. The streets were empty, it was approaching noon and we were in no rush! A lazy Sunday...

Interesting guest, and great questions for her!

...but I think what Steve Garfield was pointing out (above) was that you both asked the same question of the guest, namely "How do you find people to interview?".

...although both of the guest's answers were interesting so I'm glad both made it into the show.

...and your answers here in the comments of how you find guests for DriveTime were interesting too!

Mostly I like that Sonia talked more this episode. (Nothin' against you, Ravi!)

Ahh... so that's what Steve was saying? David, you've cracked it!

Did we both ask the same question? Do you mean I have to pay attention to what's going on?! ;-)

Yes, more Sonia is good. Watch out... I may get relegated to the back seat none too soon (if not the trunk!)

Ravi,
Do the rear seats flip down? Can you bring in guests from the trunk? That would be an entrance!

melanie -- you never know with Studio-A! It may be capable of things not originally intended. I imagine guests emerging from the trunk area for a ghoulish Halloween special.

It raises the hairs on the back of my neck just thinking about it!

sorry confused -- I'm just getting to your comment! We do have a weekend edition occasionally, in fact we've had Road Trip Editions during vactions.

Consult the DriveTime Guest FAQ -- if there's something that isn't there, let me know!
