Episode Five

Veteran Radio Producer Tony Kahn joins Ravi on some lunchtime errands to talk about the Morning Stories podcast. Sonia and Ravi recap their sneak preview of Massachusett's first IKEA. And the trunk is cracked opened...

Ahhhhhhh, no trunk shot yet!!! The temptation is killing me! (Superb shots/editing in the trunk scene, btw). Another great show, Ravi - particularly the opening. I dropped by the Ikea this past Wednesday, and right as I pulled up the two words that came to mind were "airport terminal."

Do I smell a DriveTime change box in the works?

iksib,

Thanks for the feedback -- you're first out of the gate!

At the risk of alienating the DriveTime faithful, I had to push back really getting into the trunk. But hey, this is November sweeps strategy at its finest! Hell, "Night Stalker" even pulled out the age-old "To Be Continued" at the end of last night's episode. I felt like I was watching "The Hulk" TV series.

But last week's teaser said we'd venture out of the car to *find out* what's in the trunk. And we have -- junk!

We'll do some itemizing and organizing of that junk next week -- I promise!

Re: the change box. Is that because of my carping about sponsors? I was in a cranky mood that day... it was a recurring theme that only escalated later that day during my CNET interview. I've calmed down.

Ha, I noticed that during the CNET interview, you mercenary! We all know you're doing it for The Art.

Congrats on another fun episode - good guest!

Thanks Polly,

If you've had just half as much fun watching these as I've had making them...

then I've had twice as much fun as you!

Look at this exposure! CNET, baby! You didn't sound cranky during the interview, but I can understand if it was just one of "those days."

The ST:TNG "Saucer Separation" reference was truly excellent. Was that Sonia cracking up in the background?

*cute voice*

Awww, look at how DriveTime is growing...

daniel burns, thanks for your continued support!

bp, you're first to honor the Dave Bowman reference.

kosteski, yes, the damn keys! sonia gently chided me on that while watching the footage.

Cool a local podcast to check out. Love the obscure references even if I don't get every one of them.

We need to see the trunk!!

Best one yet. I LOVE Tony Kahn, not from Morning Stories but from "Says You" (I'm sorry you didn't talk about that). You've hit the big time!

bev,

Glad you enjoyed the episode! Tony briefly touched on "Says You" but the exchange was something like this:

------

Tony: I don't know if you're familiar with "Says You"

[awkward pause]

Ravi: I have to admit that I am not.

------

You know I still haven't had a musical guest yet. If only I could find a musician... (hint, hint!)

Ravi,

Great show, look forward to it every week. Anyway, I have a suggestion. I notice you have trouble with the camera over-exposing and was wondering whether a sunshade mounted on the rear window of the car might help (by balancing the light levels a bit)?

Really great show, probably the best one up to now, and a really interesting guest. I'm just launching my iTunes to get some morning stories.

So take care and please open the trunk next week.

scott,

thanks for the suggestion, I may try to tinker with some filters/shades, but I have to keep my visibility (for driving purposes). but it's a good idea.

it's this damn rakish winter light!

I'm not surprised your keys were hitting the dashboard, you've got a real jailer's set there (visible in the trunk scene).

I went minimalist with mine a few months ago, I now just have a car key, a house key and a small LED torch, on a simple ring. No more banging keys.

I really enjoy watching the shows, thanks for making them.

anonymous,

I might put your question into an upcoming DriveTime glovebox segment.

thanks escorial -- this week's episode may actually go out a bit later. My co-host and I have been waylaid by sickness, which has pushed back "production a bit" (ie. we haven't been commuting because we've been home sick)

jon evans, yes I must trim down those damn keys!
